Today’s post was going to be about the in and outs of self care, why it’s important, and announcing that we’ll have regular posts about keeping up with your self care. But, if you couldn’t tell by the title of this post, we have something more important to talk about…
Bad Bitch Bey
Yes, in case you didn’t learn after the Queen’s 2nd studio album, entitled, B Day, today, September 4, 2017, is the 36th annual celebration of the international holiday, Bey Day. Today will be celebrated with parties, cookouts, kickbacks, listening parties, and will round out a weekend long list of events, and not just because it’s Labor Day Weekend.
If you go to a single cookout and they don’t have a glass, pitcher, bottle, or can of lemonade in sight, you obviously are at the wrong function. I, even in the confines of my own home, where I will spend the day going through Beyonce’s entire discography a plethora of times, will be enjoying Snapple’s wonderful Diet Half’n’Half Lemonade Tea.
Now, I know some of us don’t have the luxury of having today off, in which case, I am sorry. If it’s any constellation, you’ll get something that, as a full-time freelancer and business owner, I’ll never have again: Holiday Pay. Whether it’s 1.5x your usual pay or it’s double, just remember that Bey said “The best revenge is your paper.” Get that money! Bey will still be here to celebrate when you’re done.
Bey Day Self Care Habits
You know, it only feels right to actually talk about self care, today. I mean, if Nueue Thick Beyonce can focus on self care after having quadruplets (that’s twin Geminis), why can’t we?
So today, here are some Bey Dey specific self care tasks you can do.
- Listen to her entire discography. Now, I know I mentioned that this is how I plan on spending my day (and not a single word of it was a lie) BUT I’m not just doing it to celebrate Bey’s birthday. Listening to music is one of the most accessible forms of self care there is. Some studies have even suggested listening to a wide variety of music and genre can keep you relaxed and emotionally stable. Normally, I try to get through a few albums of an given artists within a day. It just so happens that today the decision is pretty simple.
- Learn the choreography of her videos. Physical activity, like hiking and working out, is a great way to relax while also energizing your body so that you’re ready to take on the day ahead of you. But not everyone wants to go for a run or risk being attacked by a mountain lion on a hike in 100 degree weather, so why not dance? If you didn’t know, dancing is actually a great way to work up a sweat as it engages your entire body and burns calories at a quicker rate than running depending on the intensity. Instead of hitting the gym, just check out some of Bey’s dance moves and do them yourself. With 20 years worth of material and countless tours to review, you have a lot to choose from.
- Make Lemonade. If you’re of drinking age and have today off, why not enjoy it to the fullest. Whether you follow Beyonce’s Lemonade recipe or use Simply, a lemonade cocktail could really hit the spot. Personally, I like making my own Hennessy Lemonade blend, but if you want to try something new, try out the recipe here.
- Don’t get drunk in love. It’s September and if you count 9 months ahead you land directly in the middle of Gemini season. If you’re going to get busy, make sure to wrap it up, use spermicide, and make sure you’ve been keeping track of your pill. Bey brought into this world the only Geminis we could ever depend on and we don’t need anymore. Wait until mid-October to try for those kiddies if you want to, but I will not support the making of any evil babies.
